Coca-Cola Compostable Cups
Campus Dining & Shops Launches New Compostable Coca-Cola Cups with Drink-Thru Lids
In collaboration with the Office of Sustainability and as part of the university’s Climate Action Plan, UB Campus Dining has switched to new compostable cups with drink-thru lids at all retail dining locations for fountain beverages.
The cups are purchased through Coca-Cola and feature a distinctive new design and sturdier construction. The Coca-Cola ecotainer® compostable paper cup uses a plant based Ingeo™ lining and paper from responsibly managed forests.
This expands an existing compostable selection that includes napkins and to-go containers campus wide, and utensils at One World Café. Currently, One World Café is outfitted with Organics receptacles where all compostable materials can be discarded. These products, along with food waste, are then picked up by Natural Upcycling. Through their anaerobic digestion process, organic waste is converted into a renewable resource.
“We are always looking for opportunities to move the needle. We have a chance to make a real impact in both our waste diversion and composting education here on campus, of course with help from students, staff and visitors,” said Eric Blackledge, executive director of Campus Dining and Shops.
